| An estimated 80% of people infected with HSV-2 are not aware that they are infected. This is because genital herpes will often produce mild symptoms or no symptoms at all (asymptomatic infection). Type 1 or Type 2 genital herpes is almost always transmitted sexually, or from mother to child during labor. Many cases of genital herpes go undiagnosed and many people pass the herpes virus to their sexual partners without knowing that they are infected. |
